Buying gold bullion
American Gold Eagle coins are an excellent way to buy gold. The only modern gold bullion coins backed by the U.S. government for weight and gold content, Gold Eagles are a safe, secure, and convenient method of balancing your investment portfolio and reducing risk during times of economic uncertainty and inflation with gold, one of the world's most trusted assets.
Gold Eagles are legal U.S. tender, not replica coins. Produced since 1986 by the U.S. Mint, they are available in four sizes: one-ounce ($50 face value), half-ounce ($25 face value), quarter-ounce ($10 face value), and tenth-ounce ($5 face value). They are also available as sets. Each one-ounce American Eagle gold coin contains precisely one troy ounce of pure 24-karat gold.
U.S. Gold Eagle bullion coins are ideal for first-time gold buyers and serious gold investors alike. They are also eligible for IRAs (see below).
Benefits of American Gold Eagles
Gold content guaranteed by the U.S. Mint — Gold Eagles are the only bullion gold coins guaranteed as to weight and gold content by the U.S. government.
Minted in 22-karat gold — Using the durable gold standard established for gold circulating coinage more than 300 years ago, each Gold Eagle coin is minted in 91.67% fine gold alloyed with a small amount of silver and copper added to harden and protect it against damage. Pure, 24-karat gold is actually quite soft. Adding alloy to pure gold makes it many times more durable than gold itself. Each Gold Eagle coin contains its specified weight (one-ounce, half-ounce, quarter-ounce, or tenth-ounce) in pure 24-karat gold. The alloy weight is extra. A one-ounce American Gold Eagle, for example, actually weighs 1.0909 troy ounces.
Private and non-reportable — Unlike most gold bullion, American Gold Eagles are non-reportable the IRS by brokers. They offer complete financial privacy and the security of gold, one of the world’s oldest and most trusted assets. Other modern-issue gold bullion coins like Canadian Gold Maple Leafs, South African Gold Kruggerrands, Austrian Gold Philharmonics, and Chinese Gold Pandas are reportable to the IRS when you sell them to gold dealers in increments of 25 ounces or more. American Eagles are exempt from this reporting requirement.
Eligible for Individual Retirement Accounts — Unlike other gold bullion coins, U.S. Gold Eagles are eligible to fund IRAs. In order to include Gold Eagles in your IRA portfolio you must have an independent custodian to hold your gold. American Gold Exchange works closely with several suitable IRA custodians.
